Turning 18 today (November 10), French DJ and producer Petit Biscuit is a teenager making some of the biggest waves of any dance music artist this year. Still in his teens, he’s nothing less than a bonafide, precocious superstar in the making.
Picking up the cello at age 5 and going to music school, Petit Biscuit’s first EP would come at the age of only 15 with “Sunset Lover”, racing its way to an unprecedented 400M streams worldwide. More recently, Petit Biscuit has released “Waterfall” featuring Panama which has already been streamed more than 9M times, and followed this success with further releases ‘Beam’ and ‘Problems’ – Medhi’s collaboration with Norwegian artist Lido.
Instantly conjuring similar tropes of what brought the young star such massive global cult fame: ‘Presence’ offers warm, progressive chord structures and colourful, polished mixing flanked by electronic touches and a furtive vocal that both chills and rouses.
Recorded over the course of the past year, Petit Biscuit, a.k.a. Mehdi Benjelloun wrote, produced and mixed “Presence”, finding time between high school exams and sold-out tours across the U.S., Europe and beyond. The album was mastered by legendary engineer Chab (Daft Punk, Air, Sebastien Tellier) and includes contributions from Bipolar Sunshine and the aforementioned Panama and Lido.
Having already sold-out London’s Electric ballroom months in advance, Petit Biscuit will return to the capital to play the 02 Forum on February 10 with ‘Presence’ looking set to cement the French teenager’s huge status as one of the most exciting young talents in the game right now.
