A special talent has emerged. With completely viral plays at BBC Introducing and 6 Music as well as a Top 30 airplay chart for his debut album’s first single “Gotta Getaway” (not to mention 26,000 streams via Apple Music), Gizmo Varillas follows this notable introduction with the first release from his new 3-track EP, “Give A Little Love”. The track blends lilting guitar riffs referencing Paul Simon, whilst adding an inspired, rougher Brazilian Tropicalia texture. This is a unique, intoxicating sound as timeless as it is genuinely exciting. Not only because Gizmo has played every instrument, engineered, arranged and produced every record he’s released until present.
Born in Santander, Gizmo grew up in Bilbao and arrived in London by way of Cardiff, where he studied media as an aspiring documentary maker. A lost summer busking for food and accommodation across southern France however lead him down a different path; one year later, his debut single ‘One and Only’ was warmly received by BBC Introducing, reaching #25 on the Tradio pop chart. Gizmo began receiving seals of approval from seasoned artists like La Yegros and Gavin James, who he went on to support on tours across the UK and Europe with shows at the Rich Mix, Sage Newcastle, Melkweg and Paradiso in Amsterdam to name a few. Just announced as support act for Jack Savoretti’s sold out show at Somerset House on 15th July, Gizmo will be shortly announcing more London shows. Warm, engrossing and timeless, “Give A Little Love” and Gizmo’s new EP is only the beginning for a humble gem of star in waiting.
